Ludlow Assembly Rooms celebrate 100 years of cinema in the town

This year Ludlow Assembly Rooms are celebrating 100 years of cinema in the town! Known originally as the Picture House, their independent cinema welcomed its first audiences in 1925 when the building was converted from a ballroom.

To acknowledge this incredible centenary Ludlow Assembly Rooms will be showing a selection of films from 1925 throughout the year, including ‘The Lost World’ an American, silent, fantasy film about giant monster dinosaurs.

The film appears on an original Picture House poster that Assembly Rooms staff were fortunate to have discovered in their archives. The Picture House posters have been used to rebrand their cinema guide, adopting this vintage style as part of the celebration.

To mark this momentous year and support your local independent cinema, film screenings will take place at Ludlow Assembly Rooms at least four times a week, with Monday and matinee tickets at reduced price.

With a focus on accessibility for all, there are also a number of captioned screenings each month for those who are hard of hearing as well as relaxed screenings. The bar is well stocked with a selection of local refreshments (Ludlow Brewery, Hobsons and Rockfield Gin) as well as soft drinks, hot drinks, ice creams and snacks. Fresh homemade popcorn is on offer too!
