There’s something for all the family at this year’s Shrewsbury Flower Show

Thousands of people will be descending on Shrewsbury’s Quarry Park for the annual Shrewsbury Flower Show this weekend.

The show promises incredible displays of flowers and vegetables judged by the experts, with dozens of food and craft stalls, music, entertainment and a gardeners’ question time too.

This year the members of the public are invited to choose their favourite exhibit from the glorious display of plants and flowers in the Quarry Marquee. The winner will be presented with their prize on Saturday afternoon by celebrity gardener Pippa Greenwood. The Prize for the Winner of this competition is a generous £750.00 and it is hoped this award will become a regular feature of the Show.

Each evening the show will draw to a close with the massed bands arena finale and a stunning fireworks display.

Frank Hardy, a past Vice Principal of Pershore College of Horticulture will be teaching children how to plant and grow flowers. Jack the Jester will be making a return with his mix of juggling skills, storytelling and shows to captivate every audience.

New comer to the show – Key Theatre Academy – is a Shropshire-based performing arts school performing an eclectic mix of songs from the musicals including Les Misérables and Matilda.

If that isn’t enough excitement for you, there will also be Martial Arts displays from the Lee Mathews Black Belt Academy, a penalty shoot-out competition with Shrewsbury Town Football Club, a circus workshop, balloon modeller, arts and crafts tent, face painting and subsidised rides.

Other exhibits at the show include the locomotive Lilla, from Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railway in North Wales, which will form the centrepiece of the railway’s exhibit.
