The singer behind one of the best-known tunes of the 1990s is set to perform in Shropshire this summer.

The performances will start off of a ‘mini tour’ of only five venues around the country.

Graham Jenkins, owner of Henry Tudor House, situated just off Wyle Cop, said that he was delighted that Chesney Hawkes, who is currently appearing on BBC’s Celebrity Masterchef, had chosen Shrewsbury.

“His first gig here sold out almost straight away, which just shows what a big name he still is, so Chesney has agreed to perform another show here on August 9th as well,” said Graham.

The single The One and Only spent five weeks at number one in the charts and became part of the soundtrack of a generation and is still featured on radio playlists, compilations and in DJ sets everywhere.

Born into a musical family – his father is the singer Chip Hawkes, formerly with the 1960s band The Tremeloes – Chesney Hawkes’ own career began at 19, when he appeared as the title character in the film Buddy’s Song alongside Roger Daltrey in 1991.

He has had success as a songwriter for other artists, including Tears for Fears and Nik Kershaw, and also often works with the comedian and best-selling author Tony Hawks.

Joining him on his mini tour are singer songwriters Percival Elliott and Anthony Starble.

Tickets are priced at £14 and are available from Henry Tudor House or from www.henrytudorhouse.com/live
