It was an unusual morning at Peakes Travel Elite on Mardol in Shrewsbury recently.
A figure in period costume had popped in to book a voyage. Not just any voyage but around the world on HMS Beagle. Sadly he had missed that trip by more than 180 years but this failed to shake Senior Travel Adviser Sue Kinton.
She suggested that perhaps a cruise to the Galapagos and a visit to the Charles Darwin Research Station might soften his disappointment.
For James Gollins, standing in for Charles Darwin in this mini drama, the Galapagos sounded attractive but unfortunately he is going to have his hands full launching Darwin Tours in Shrewsbury from April 14 this year.
These will be walking tours of the town, seeing it through the eyes of the young Darwin as he might have experienced it as a child and young man and as he might see it today.
