Leading folk artists to visit Shrewsbury as part of music season

Shropshire Roots, which is backed by Shrewsbury Folk Festival, has unveiled its winter programme that includes festival patron John Jones performing a rare solo gig at The Hive in Belmont on January 25.

Damien Barber, leader of the Demon Barber Roadshow, and Mike Wilson, from the Wilson family band, will head to the venue on February 8.

One of the most inventive musicians on the folk scene, BBC Folk Award winner Jim Moray will visit The Hive on March 22.

Winners of the Radio 2 Horizon award and BBC Young Folk award winners Greg Russell and Ciaran Algar will follow him there on April 19.

Rising star Emma Sweeney will make her debut at Morris Hall on May 10 and Irish singer songwriter Keiran Goss will make a welcome return to The Hive on May 31.

Festival Director Alan Surtees said the winter-spring line up offered a real treat for fans of acoustic and folk music.

“There is a real cross section of music on offer in this concert series from Celtic to traditional English at two great venues in the town. Every concert will offer followers of acoustic and folk music something different and we look forward to seeing as many people as possible at the performances.”
