Acting Group Go On A Shropshire Manhunt

STARS – Shifnal Theatrical and Repertory Society – are putting on a comedy this autumn as part of the town’s popular arts festival. But while there is plenty of female talent in the group, organisers say they need a few more men prepared to take to the stage and make the play a real success.

“The play we’ll be performing is Confusions,” says director Mark Davis. “It’s an Alan Ayckbourn classic and perfect for the festival because it’s funny, quick moving and has a large cast, which means that a lot of people can take part. But while we have managed to cast all of the female parts, the sheer number of male characters means actors are doubling up on some of those roles.

“There are plenty of blokes from in and around Shifnal who have acted before or have always fancied having a go at treading the boards. This is the perfect opportunity for them to take the limelight and the applause.”

Confusions will be performed in September this year as part of Shifnal Festival. Plans are already underway to perform a panto early next year.

STARS were formed at the start of 2011 because Shifnal lacked an adults’ amateur drama group, but already has about 30 members, working both on and off stage. The group is looking for new members – both men and women – who can help back stage or would like to take part on future productions. STARS meet once a fortnight at Shifnal Methodist Church.
