Colleagues from Southwater Veterinary Group in Stafford Park, Telford, will take on the Birmingham HYROX challenge this October – to raise money for the Macmillan Cancer Support charity.

Facing the gruelling challenge for the first time, they are aiming to raise over £1,200 for the charity, which supports millions of people affected by cancer every year.

Five team members are participating in the event, which sees competitors tackle eight 1km runs alternating with different workout stations.

Practice Manager Rachel Harvey will also be attending as a station judge. She said: “I’ve competed in HYROX for just over a year and have finally convinced some of my colleagues to get involved.

“These events push you to your physical limits, and it’s very telling that members of our team are willing to rise to the occasion together. They will be facing the challenge across its time in Birmingham, from October 22nd – 26th.

“Our vets Carwyn Lee and Catalin Demeter, and vet Naomi Brown and Head RVN Joedie Evans are competing in pairs, while our operations manager Caroline Rigby is braving a solo event.

“Macmillan is a charity close to many hearts, and I’ve no doubt they will achieve their fundraising goal of £1,200 thanks to the support of their loved ones and, of course, our wonderful clients.

“To combine our teamwork and some healthy competition with raising money for a great cause is fantastic – it truly demonstrates the phenomenal people at Southwater Vets. We have a strong team ethic at work and away from the practice, working hard and playing hard.

“Our staff can do anything they put their minds to, and we are so proud of them for getting involved. We will be cheering them on from the sidelines and I can’t wait to see how they get on… though there might be some sore legs the following week!”
