St George’s Cricket Club was formed in 1922, and since 2002 it has held the Clubmark accreditation from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) which shows that the club is sustainable, well run and provides a good environment for its members, in particular children.

The team for disabled cricketers was established in 1993 and in 2021 the club became the only one in Shropshire to be recognised as a Disability Champions Cricket Club by the ECB.

Paul Taylor, chairmanat St George’s Cricket Club, said: “Our club volunteers maintain the cricket fields and wider recreation ground grass areas used by the community without any public financial support.  Obviously, this costs a significant amount of money each year and we are pleased to have received sponsorship from Vistry who are building new housing in the local area.”

Carina Wilde, sales and marketing director at Vistry North Central Midlands, said: “We are keen to play a positive role in the places where we build new homes and are always looking for opportunities to support grassroots clubs which are the lifeblood of any community.

“St George’s Cricket Club has been providing a sporting and social focal point for this part of Telford for more than a century and is held in high regard by local people. We are proud to be sponsoring such an inclusive and forward-thinking club and hope that our contribution will help it to carry on serving the local community for many years to come.”
