A 16-year-old Shrewsbury High School student, Keira Mayhew, is making a difference in her community with her new business venture.
Inspired by her volunteer work at Rainbow Rescue Telford, Keira has set up a small gift business to raise funds for local animal charities.
Keira, who is currently working towards her Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award, has been volunteering at Rainbow Rescue for several years. As the rescue centre prepares to relocate and focus on emergency cases, Keira saw an opportunity to help support them and other local charities.
Using her 3-D printer, Keira creates unique keyrings, coasters, and small decorations, which she then sells at local craft fairs. Her first charity stall and tombola raised enough funds to purchase a load of cat food for Creature Comforts Rescue Centre in Powys.
Keira’s goal is to continue raising money for animal charities in Shropshire and Mid Wales. Her next target is Jelly Exotics, a small family-run rescue that cares for exotic animals such as snakes and geckos.
To ensure her business is sustainable, Keira has developed a detailed business plan that outlines her costs, outgoings, and profit margins. She is also always on the lookout for tombola prizes and crafting supplies to keep her business running smoothly.
