An established Shrewsbury-based pet and animal supplies business has a new owner and a new identity.
The Nixons Pet & Country Store, located in Harlescott Barns for almost 20 years, has been recently acquired by Prees-based Grocott Group.
The business was formerly owned by Tony and Connie Nixon, and their son Michael, and it sells an extensive range of animal food and associated products, primarily for domestic pets and small-holding livestock. As well as the store, the business also has its own warehouse.
Managing the store are brother and sister Jayne Allman and Phil Owen who are joined by Sam Greenway who has worked in the store for the past 13 years. Jayne was a former Director of retailer Colour Supplies Home & Garden which has branches in Whitchurch, Oswestry and Wrexham. More recently, she worked at Bradeley Green Pet Store, near Whitchurch.
For 25 years, Phil managed his family’s successful bookmaking business.
“Phil and I feel very fortunate to be given the chance to manage Nixons with its diverse range of quality products and feeds for so many different types of animals and birds,” said Jayne Allman. “We were both brought up to love nature and wildlife and we’re so enjoying listening to all the wide-ranging stories and experiences from our customers about their pets and wildlife.
She added, “We are able to buy products in bulk as we have our own large storage facility on-site which means we can offer high quality products at very competitive prices.
“We are loving learning about different products and welcome any advice to help the business grow whilst still keeping the old-fashioned charm and friendly service. Customers are very welcome to bring their dogs into our store too.”
To coincide with the new ownership, the business has also launched a new identity which will feature on store signage, staff uniforms and products. The logo was designed by Nick Edwards of Newport.
