Due to Covid, the celebrations were postponed a year, but it was worth the wait with a wonderful evening hosted by Chairman Howard Thorne and Shropshire Homes Directors at St Mary’s Church in Shrewsbury.

Established in 1981 by Howard Thorne and Phil Northwood who were joined in the 1980’s by Gerald Rogers and Richard Bowler. Shropshire Homes has grown substantially in size, technical ability and prestige in the intervening years. The company is well known for the variety of exciting projects that have been completed in locations around the County.

From their first home at Tibberton in 1981, to their largest site of 250 homes and apartments at Leighton Park, the former Shelton Hospital, Shropshire Homes has built 3000 homes over 150 sites. With a team of highly-skilled craftsmen and professionals, Shropshire Homes has gone from strength to strength – achieving a turnover of over £50 million, whilst maintaining its reputation for character and quality and family-firm culture. The Company has also supported a large number of local charities and has been a long-time sponsor of Shrewsbury Town FC.

Shropshire Homes Chairman, Howard Thorne said: “When we set out in 1981, never did we dream that we would build all these houses. We owe a great debt to all our employees, past and present and the many companies and supporters who have helped us survive and flourish along the way. It was an honour to be able to celebrate with many of them at the weekend.”

Since 1981, the housing market has fluctuated, but Shropshire Homes has continued to survive and prosper and believe the secret to success has been the people they invest in – recruiting, training and providing resources in an enjoyable working environment. With current developments in Ludlow, Crudgington, Stafford, Priorslee, Orleton and Dorrington, and upcoming developments in Loggerheads, Pontesbury, Ellesmere, Shrewsbury and Telford and more in the pipeline.
