Companies can currently receive up to £4,000 for each apprentice they employ, until the end of September.

The employer engagement team from the college held a free half-hour session to explain how businesses could take advantage of the support – and outline some of the other benefits which apprentices provide.

Recruitment specialist Lora Rogers, one of the webinar presenters, said: “It was a very successful event. We are already connected with dozens of local businesses, but were able to strike up engagement with some new contacts.

“We certainly succeeded in raising awareness of the apprenticeship opportunities which are available to Shropshire companies – and hopefully, it will lead to some new roles being created for young people.”

Several companies have already booked employer meetings with the college following the webinar, including Portion Solutions which is looking for an engineering apprentice.

SMP Security has also linked up with the college after Matt Morris logged onto the webinar, describing it as ‘very informative’.

The webinar also made the news on BBC Radio Shropshire, with college duo Lora Rogers and Beckie Bosworth invited to discuss the project on the breakfast show.

Telford College is offering free consultations, and a free recruitment service, for any companies considering taking on apprentices.

Currently, businesses are entitled to receive £3,000 for every apprentice they recruit over the age of 19, or £4,000 if they take on anyone aged between 16 and 18.
