Local developer purchases Grade II Listed Shrewsbury town centre building

A local developer has completed the purchase of a prominent Grade II Listed retail building with conversion potential in Shrewsbury town centre.

Offers of around £425,000 had been invited for the property on Wyle Cop, Shrewsbury

The premises at 55-57 Wyle Cop were previously home to F.W. Thornton & Son, a car parts and accessories business.

Offers of around £425,000 had been invited by Towler Shaw Roberts for the property, which extends in total to approximately 7,000 sq ft and requires refurbishment.

Offering versatile accommodation arranged over four floors, including basement storage, the building offers scope for conversion to the upper floors, subject to planning.

Toby Shaw, who handled the sale for TSR, said: “It was home for a number of years to F.W. Thornton & Son, but it’s been closed for some time and represents an exciting development opportunity.

“It’s been identified by the new owner as an interesting project, a Grade II Listed building, with scope for either residential or commercial conversion.

“The property is well located in a popular and busy location in Shrewsbury town centre, among a mix of independent retailers, restaurants and public houses.”

The premises additionally feature a large glazed frontage with dual access, pedestrian side access and a small enclosed courtyard to the rear.
