The Shropshire School Sports and Athletics Association (SSSAA) is celebrating after receiving a £200 donation to support its annual awards ceremony.
Bellway Homes, which is building homes at The Spinney at Oteley Road in Shrewsbury, donated the money after hearing about the great work the association does in the county.
The role of the SSSAA is to encourage and support school sports and county teams that are run by the range of school sports associations. The committee holds an annual awards event to recognise anybody in full-time education who has gained international honours in sports.
After hearing that the SSSAA received funding cutbacks, Bellway stepped in to support the event. The donation went towards a buffet, staffing, print and a well-renowned speaker for the event.
Executive Committee Member for the SSSAA, Michael Douch, said: “Our international evening which took place on February 26 turned out to be one of our most successful yet.
“We were able to provide 29 individual awards in total, 15 of which were new awards, and 14 were ‘repeat’ awards. There were also four major team awards made for achievement and innovative practice.
“This evening is very traditional and important to us, and it really meant a lot to us that Bellway stepped in to support us.”
Sales Director for Bellway West Midlands, Marie Richards, said: “We are thrilled to be helping out with such an excellent cause, which is key to supporting sports in schools as well as celebrating local talent.”
