A Shropshire freight forwarder has thrown its support behind an awards scheme that will celebrate the achievements of people with dyslexia.
Global Freight, which ships to destinations across the UK and the world from its base in Telford, will sponsor the Shining Star Secondary Award in the 2016 Dyslexia Awards at Enginuity in Ironbridge on November 26.
The awards programme is the brainchild of Elizabeth Wilkinson, a dyslexic who set up her own Dyslexia Consultancy to train people to support those with the condition.
The Mayor of Telford & Wrekin Councillor Rae Evans will be among the guests at the black tie event.
The Global Freight sponsored Shining Star – Secondary category aims to recognise a dyslexic secondary school student living in the county who inspires, encourages, or supports those around them.
Other titles up for grabs include the Entrepreneur Award, the Innovation Award and one for outstanding personal achievement.
Global Freight Managing Director Nicole Gunter said: “When we heard about the Dyslexia Awards, we were only too happy to get involved as it is a positive way to raise awareness of a condition that affects one in 10 people.
“More people need to be aware of the positive role people with dyslexia play in schools, business and everyday life and these awards will help shine a light on their achievements.”
Elizabeth said: “I am delighted to have Global Freight on board as a sponsor for these inaugural awards.
“The support of local businesses has been key to establishing the awards in their first year. The purpose of the awards is raise awareness of dyslexia and empower my fellow dyslexics and celebrate those who support and champion others too.”
