A specialist nurse manager has been named as the new man in charge of a Bridgnorth care home.

Nigel Godman has taken up the reins at Innage Grange, which is one of 14 care homes in Shropshire that is run by not-for-profit Coverage Care Services.

Innage Grange provides residential and nursing care for up to 83 residents in seven units including specialised palliative care and designated dementia units.

Nigel qualified as a registered mental health nurse in 1985 and then as a registered general nurse three years later.

His career has included working as a community psychiatric nurse, as a care manager for a local authority, and managing a mental health team before leaving nursing in 2006 to work in the private and third sector.

Nigel completed a Return to Nursing qualification in 2014 and working as a staff nurse in a hospital and a deputy manager in a care home before moving to Innage Grange. He is now studying for a Master’s Degree in Advanced Nursing Practice through Cardiff University.

Debbie Price, Operations Director for Coverage Care Services, said: “Nigel’s experience across a wide range of healthcare sectors makes him ideally placed to take the helm of Innage Grange.

“We are delighted that he will be able to put his wealth of experience to use to ensure we continue to deliver a high quality standard of care for our residents at Innage Grange.”

One of Nigel’s first tasks is to lead a recruitment drive for day and night nurses, care assistants and support workers to grow his team. He said he was hoping to attract experienced nurses into the independent care sector.

He said: “Having worked in a variety of fields, I believe working in a home like Innage Grange offers new and exciting challenges to nurses and carers who may only have worked in general medical practice.

“I am looking forward to building my team at Innage Grange and would love to hear from anyone interested in the roles we have available.”
