Shawbury United club chairman Chris Kirkup, said: “The first team has done exceptionally well beating many bigger and better funded clubs … just like Leicester really!

“This fantastic league championship shield dates back to the 1890’s and was won in the early 1900s by reserve teams from West Bromwich Albion, Aston Villa and Wolves whose names are all engraved several times in tiny shields across the whole of the trophy.

“We are really thrilled with our promotion and thanks must also go to head of business Gareth Thomas and his own team here at Rybrook BMW of Shrewsbury who have been behind us all the way with sponsorship and our winning team shirts have proudly displayed their name all season.”

Gareth Thomas, added, “Being a rather keen player and regular Shawbury spectator myself, we are delighted to be associated with such a successful team and to see the Rybrook BMW name blazoned across the West Midlands on their path to glory.

“We hope to continue with our sponsorship in future and wish Chris and his men every success for next season.”
