Staff at a hotel are teaming up with a Telford-based charity in a bid to raise thousands of pounds for families across the borough.

The Park Inn by Radisson, in Forge Gate by Telford Town Centre, has chosen Home Start Telford and Wrekin as its charity of the year and will host a variety of fundraising events throughout the year.

The partnership was launched with a successful “Park Inn Goes Red” event for Comic Relief and Home Start, and the fundraising is continuing with the launch of the Smartie Challenge.

Every member of staff at the hotel is being given a tube of Smarties which they are being asked to fill with 20p coins and return to managers when full.

Jenni Ellis, of The Park Inn, said : “We have worked out that a tube full of 20p coins contains £12, which is quite a surprising amount.

“We have a team of about 60 members of staff, so if everyone fills their tube there should be a total of £720 which would be a great effort.

“Staff are really keen to support good causes and our managers asked us to nominate a charity of the year, so we picked Home Start.

“They do some fantastic work in the local area supporting families with children who need some extra help for a variety of reasons.

“The charity works with people from all sorts of backgrounds who are dealing with illness or some other issue, and we are keen to do our bit to help.”

The hotel will be hosting a number of fundraising initiatives during 2015, such as coffee mornings and special culinary events in the hotel’s rgb bar and grill which is open to non-guests.

Julia Allinson, of Home Start, thanked The Park Inn for its support and said people were very grateful for the help they received from the charity.

She said: “We are delighted to be working with The Park Inn to raise awareness of Home Start Telford and Wrekin within the local area.

“Their help and support with fundraising is incredibly valuable to us and will mean that we can support further families during their most difficult times.”
