Market Drayton based Joule’s Brewery has agreed a 2-year sponsorship with local Newport cycling club; Nova Raiders.

The cycling club itself has grown from strength to strength since its conception in 2009 with its membership base now in the region of 150 members. The club have been looking a for a permanent home for some time and with the imminent opening of Flagship Newport Tap, the New Inn, what better place to call home than their local tap.

The sponsorship, which formally began at the start of March, provides an exciting opportunity for the brewery. Trudie from Joule’s commented, “when Nova Raiders approached us in the summer of last year, the New Inn purchase was very much a concept, so it was difficult to agree to anything. During the autumn the purchase of the pub went though, and provided the perfect time to reignite conversations. The club is very much focused on raising money for local charities and sits at the centre of the Newport community; mirroring our marketing strategy, being a key part of the community and supporting local events.”

Joule’s Brewery have been having regular meetings with the Cycling Club over the past few months to discuss ways in which the brewery can support the club with various events, providing an exciting time for all. The club has been very much involved in the external planning of the New Inn, making sure it provides ample space for bike racks and cover to support the regular meets for the club. The New Inn opening planned for early June will provide the club with a permanent home. The club will be meeting at the pub for their regular training sessions and the Flagship Tap will be able to provide the very much needed refreshments.

Simon Broad, Chairman of the Club commented “the Raiders have certainly come a long way since we started with twelve friends getting together in 2009 to complete a charity challenge for Macmillan Cancer, in fact to date we have now raised in excess of £50k for various charities many of them local to Newport. I could not hazard a guess as to how many miles in total we have cycled as a club in that time, but one thing I know for sure is that we must have worked up a thirst! So the sponsorship from Joules could not have come at a better time & will help us to raise the profile of the club further and promote our charity fundraising efforts to a wider audience. The network of twenty seven Joules pubs will give us plenty of scope for organizing new and challenging rides, whilst at the same time giving us great opportunities for organizing club social events no doubt involving a few beers”

Joule’s welcomed members of the club along with family and friends for the club’s debut brewery tour last week to celebrate this exciting partnership and look forward to welcoming all to the official opening of the New Inn, planned for early June 2015.
