The charity used prize money (£120) raised by a raffle at the BCAs ceremony to take 24 children on the outing.

Now the Businesses for Children Awards are calling for nominations of all charities which are working to make Shropshire children smile for its Children’s Charity 2015 category.

Telford and Wrekin Young Carers provides a network of invaluable support for young carers aged between 5 and 18 across the region who look after a family member. The large team of volunteers offers practical and specialist advice as well as emotional support to children who have to deal with a range of situations such as disability, chronic illness, mental health difficulties or problems with drugs or alcohol misuse.

Debbie Gibbon, manager of Telford and Wrekin Young Carers said: “Life can be tiring, worrying and lonely for these children so our priority is fun: to give young carers a much-needed break from their caring role through a weekly youth club and regular day trips and activities.

“The money raised at the awards ceremony allowed us to take the young carers on an additional trip during half term, a time when a lot of them need extra help and support. It’s fantastic to be recognised by the Businesses for Children Awards for the work we do and to be able to show the children just how great they are.”

The Businesses for Children Awards celebrates the people behind a huge range of Shropshire businesses which provide activities and products for children, young people and their parents.

Sarah Hamlett, Businesses for Children Awards’ event manager said: “The BCAs were established to honour exceptional business and charities and Telford and Wrekin Young Carers are truly worthy winners.”

The BCAs are open for nominations for Children’s Charity 2015. To nominate a charity please visit: http://www.bcawards.co.uk/nominate.
