Church Stretton Golf Club hosted Shropshire & Herefordshire Union of Golf Clubs (SHUGC) two competitions last week.

The Brian Lewis Trophy and the Clee Salver, are both 18 hole Gross competitions but there is also a prize for the best-combined nett score over 36 holes, which was won by Alex Granger and Dan Taylor from Bridgnorth Golf Club.
Both enjoyed two impressive rounds of Nett 62 + 62 which gave them a 4 shot lead of the rest of the field, but their Gross 67 + 67 put then in third place for the trophies, but just on shot off being joint 2nd.
After the win, Dan said: “After enjoying a relatively stress free first 18 holes, we soon found ourselves 3 over par through 5 holes in the second round and leaking fast, as we stood on the 6th tee. Unlike the first round, Alex chose not to find the 6ft deep bracken on 7 and 9 and before we knew it birdies on 9, 11 and 12 had us very much back in contention.
“A very solid bogey from 60 yards on 15, 2 foot put miss on 16, and 3 put from 10 feet on 17 it looked to have ended all hopes of victory, but then a 25 putt for birdie on 18 from Alex gave the ‘Team Believe & Hargrove B’ Captain real reason to believe.
“Finally, credit must also be given to playing partners, organisers and green staff for their tremendous efforts in presenting a competition and course in fantastic spirit and condition.”
