SP Services staff walk over 6 Million steps for charity

They’ve got sore feet but they did it – a team of 18 employees at a Shropshire company have walked a total of six million steps equalling around 3,000 miles to raise money for charity.

SP Services MD Simon Leggett with Operations Director Jane Wilson and company founder Steve Bray joined fellow steppers on October 1 for the concluding BHTASteptember walk at the O2 in London to mark the end of their Shropshire company’s marathon walk for the Stroke Association

Staff from SP Services, a medical equipment supplier from Hortonwood in Telford, ranging from the company owner to MD, office and warehouse staff, all put their best feet forward for BHTASteptember 2018, a national campaign to raise funds for the Stroke Association.

They raised more than £650 for the campaign with each participant aiming to walk an average 10,000 steps or about five miles every day throughout September.

MD Simon Leggett even walked around the streets at his home in Ruabon one evening after work to ensure he reached his daily target after a busy day at the office.

“It was tough I have to admit. But everyone really got stuck in and were determined to do their best. We are all a lot fitter and some are even carrying on with the challenge of 10,000 steps a day,” said Simon.

Unsurprisingly Stephen Heys (20) was the top walker with 416,707 steps over the month. He walks many miles a day in SP’s large warehouse complex packing and moving boxes of emergency medical equipment destined to customers across Shropshire, the UK and worldwide.

Stephen regularly walks between 11,000 and 20,000 steps every day.

Operations Director Jane Wilson was the “top stepper” from the office with 396,590 steps in September, averaging between 10,000 and up to 15,000 steps a day.

The British Healthcare Trades Association, founded in 1917, which organises the event each year, represents members who make or sell healthcare products to help people live more independently.
