Shrewsbury Town boss praises goalscorer Louis Dodds

Paul Hurst expressed his delight with Louis Dodds, as the former Port Vale forward scored his 7th goal of the season in yesterday’s 2-0 win against Bristol Rovers.

Tis the season of good will, but Bristol Rovers took that to the nth degree yesterday. Tom Lockyear and Will Puddy’s calamitous defending opened the door for Louis Dodds to notch the first goal of the contest.

The former Leicester and Port Vale forward has now scored three in as many games.

Shrewsbury confirmed their second league win on the spin, thanks to a confident penalty from Ian Black.

The win ensured that Salop are now only in the bottom four on goal difference; as Paul Hurst enjoyed his fifth win in 11 games since taking over.

The ex Grimsby boss was full of praise for the rejuvenated Louis Dodds.

He told shrewsburytown.com: “Louis (Dodds) is a good player. His issue when I first came in was where do you play him?

“At the minute it’s in behind the striker in the number ten position. He’s got license to go higher and play as a two at times.

“There’s an element of trust. He works tirelessly, he’s always high and probably top of the stats we look at. I think he ran himself in the ground again today.

“You have to give players like him a bit of license. The goals are an added bonus.”

Fellow forward Sylvain Ebanks-Blake is still awaiting his first senior goal for the club, but Hurst was pleased with the ex Wolves man’s contribution to the cause.

He added: “Sylvain (Ebanks-Blake) has been great since I’ve come in. He’s frustrated that he hasn’t been able to take part in cup games (parent club Chesterfield refused permission) he’s had a lot of time on the training ground doing some extra work with the other lads.

“It’s for days like today that they do it. It’s not a punishment, it’s about trying to keep them as fit as we can.”
