Astons Kickboxing Academy duo, Pete and Joanne Savage have had a trophy laden time at the WUMA championship this weekend.

Joanne, aged 16, secured two silver medals in the Ladies Advanced categories and Pete, aged 55, secured a silver medal, two gold medals and the trophy for the overall men’s title.

Pete said “Astons Kickboxing academy came to this competition back in April and secured an impressive haul of trophies, so when myself and Joanne were invited back to compete this weekend the pressure was on to make sure we didn’t let the team down.”

“I am pleased to say that we both have fought very hard, against some tough opponents, and managed to do really well.”

“The competition is always tough at this event, and I would like to thank the organisers for putting on such a great competition.”

“I would also like to say how proud I am of my daughter, Joanne. She has worked incredibly hard over the last year as she prepared to move from the juniors to the adults sections and it is fantastic to see that her hard work and talent are being rewarded with great results like these. She is already talking about the next competition and will be back in training this evening to prepare.”

Club owner and fight team coach Chris Aston added “I am so very impressed by both Pete and Joanne. I have seen first-hand how hard they work, how much dedication they show and it is result and trophies like these that are just reward for the long hours in the gym.”

“It is a measure of how far we have come as a club that we are being invited to events across the country and we are being seen as a top class team that other clubs can benchmark themselves against.”

“Whilst the focus is rightly often placed on my young fighters, it is worth sparing a moment to offer special praise to Pete Savage. Not only is he competing against fighters from the age of 18 and over he is regularly winning and securing podium finishes. This speaks volumes for the spirit that Pete shows but also is a result of the hard work he puts in every week. He is an integral part of the AKA team and is liked and respected by everyone at the club.”

“Astons Kickboxing Academy runs classes for all ages and abilities and anyone who is interested in training, with a view to competing, or simply for the health and fitness benefits that the sport offers should either give me a call on 07854 857937 or visit the club website on www.astonskickboxing.co.uk”
