Shrewsbury’s unique shopping arcade is looking forward to a busy summer season.

The Parade, situated in one of the town’s most imposing Georgian buildings just behind St Mary’s Church, is home to an eclectic collection of retailers.

“We are decorating the arcade with bunting for the main summer season so it should look even more colourful and welcoming,” said proprietor Philip Freeman.

“Shrewsbury is renowned for its independent stores, claiming to have more than any other town in the country, and we feel that The Parade, which was the town’s first shopping arcade when it opened over 30 years ago, makes an important contribution to the vibrant retailing sector here,” he added.

There are now almost 30 individual shops on two floors at this stylish Grade II building, with its imposing Doric columns at the entrance.

On the upper level there are businesses devoted to ladies and gents clothing, bridal dresses, contemporary photography, jewellery, furnishing and lifestyle accessories and period houses in miniature.

The lower level includes shops selling military antiques, custom-made jewellery, stamps and collectables, vinyl records, oriental cuisine and there is even a pottery painting studio, therapeutic massage centre, hair and beauty salon, shoemaker and clothing alteration specialist.

The Parade’s own café features a terrace with stunning views and you can also park at the centre too.

“The Parade is with us today because our small shops make Shrewsbury special and the service they give keeps the customers coming back time and time again,” Philip added.
