shropshirelive.com launches quit club

Bookmark and Share

A Shropshire community news and magazine website has launched a new county Quitters Club in a bid to help people give up smoking.

shropshirelive.com launched the Shropshire Quitters Club to encourage smokers who have recently given up the habit to keep going and reach their goal.

The page encourages users to send in a photo and details of themselves to be featured on the site, with the intention of staying on there as long as they can.

It is hoped informing friends and family of their proud membership of the Shropshire Quitters Club, will help act as an incentive when people reach a weak point in their smoke-free journey.

Martin Childs from shropshirelive.com said “We loved this quirky little idea and hopefully it will encourage new non-smokers to keep going. The determination not to fail is a great incentive, so this should help keep people motivated.”

Members of the quitters club are asked to let the website team know if they are unsuccessful, so they can be removed from the club. Friends and family can also report them if they are caught lighting up again.

The shropshirelive.com website is unique in that everyone in the county is invited to contribute their own features, reviews, comments and even local photos of Shropshire to the site.
The aim of the website is for the people of Shropshire to get involved, to ensure the site is relevant to the county and serves its people well.

Since the launch of shropshirelive.com last year we have been overwhelmed with the response. Shropshire people know the importance of local news and information and we strive to give you an alternative, with the help of your contributions.

Our web stats show us and our advertisers how many people are using the website. January shattered all our expectations and the amount of people using the website continues to increase month on month as more and more local people discover us.

Thanks for getting involved, for all your ideas and suggestions and of course for using the website.

At its heart, shropshirelive.com has a motto; get involved. You are a part of the website as we are and you're welcome to write news stories, features and articles to be included.

We are passionate about where we live and we love Shropshire, our lives are here, our families and our friends. We are a small friendly, local company trying to make a difference and help bring everyone together. If a website like this can try to do that by being local and unbiased - then surely that's a good thing!

Getting a new business off the ground is never easy, especially when you have to build something from brand zero, so we wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you to everyone who has helped and supported us so far.

Thank you as well to all the businesses that are showing their support and helping the website grow by supporting local independent media that is based in the heart of Shropshire. The more advertisers that join us and the more people who use the website, will help make shropshirelive.com grow and become stronger; so we can provide more news and information to our community - free of charge.

So thank you once again for being with us on our journey.

A fresh, new and exciting website has arrived in Shropshire.

shropshirelive.com is a brand new venture, bringing to the community of Shropshire local information, stories and features at the click of a button. Users will find the latest news and sport, as well as a wealth of information on local entertainment from theatre and cinema, right through to restaurants and bars - everything you need to enjoy time out in Shropshire. The site also has a lifestyle section, a dedicated social Shropshire section and much more.

The website is unique in that everyone in the county is invited to contribute their own features, reviews, comments and even local photos of Shropshire to the site. The aim of the website is for the people of Shropshire to get involved, to ensure the site is relevant to the county and serves its people well.

shropshirelive.com has been designed and developed in the county by an independent and local company. It is owned and operated by business partners Martin Childs and Chris Pritchard who have both lived in Shropshire all their lives and have a true passion for the area.

Martin said "I feel it is important that the whole of Shropshire has an independent platform to promote things happening in the area, such as the appearance of a new local band, a community event and even highlighting restaurants and businesses to people looking for services local to them. As we move into 2010 I believe we can all help and support each other through the internet community."

Chris added "We hope that by using the website, local people will feel a part of shropshirelive.com and not feel as if they are just looking in. The site will carry information relevant to them and they are free to feedback with their own articles on local issues and can even submit reviews on local companies and events."

Martin and Chris have over twenty years' media experience between them. This, combined with their local knowledge, means they can effectively focus their energies on this web based local information hub.
