the review - Star Trek 09 - submitted by Nicki Powell
Not being a ‘Trekky’ or particularly keen on Star Trek at all, I initially was not keen on seeing this film but boy am I glad I did!

It starts the story for Captain James T Kirk and the crew of the Starship Enterprise. It keeps in some of the classic lines from Star Trek that everyone would know, whether a ‘Trekky’ or not. Spocks ‘Illogical’ and Scotty’s ‘I’m doing the best I can Captain’. Zachary Quinto (Heroes) plays Spock and not only does he portray him excellently he also uncannily looks like him.

Chris Pine plays an exceptional Kirk with a bit of a bad boy attitude which always goes down well with the ladies. There is also a superb rapport between him and ‘Doctor Leonard ‘Bones’ McCoy played by Karl Urban (Lord of the Rings) and I cannot forget to mention Britains’ very own Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead) who’s adaptation of Scotty is just brilliant.

This film had me gripped in the first 5 minutes and any female or indeed male with any kind of emotion would quite easily shed a tear at the start, as I did. There were obviously Star Trek fans in the auditorium and everyone seemed to enjoy it so whether a fan or not it hits all the right buttons.

It is funny and exciting and with a great story line, fantastic special effects and an undeniably excellent cast this is definitely one to see at the cinema.
