Council says paint the borough red and white for England
Telford & Wrekin Council is urging its residents to help paint the borough red and white and cheer on England’s football team in the World Cup.
The Council has already transformed one of its prominent floral displays and when this blooms it will turn into a red and white flag of St George with the message “Come on England”.
A picture of the flowerbed posted on the Council’s Facebook page prompted comments from some residents claiming that it was not allowed to drape England flags or bunting from homes or businesses.
Councillor Shaun Davies, cabinet member for Neighbourhood Services, said: “Nothing could be further from the truth.
“As a council we want everyone in the borough to get behind the England team, cheer them on and show this in whatever way that they can.
“If, while the World Cup is on, people want to decorate their homes and businesses with England flags and bunting, then we positively welcome it.
“Let’s all do what we can to show our support for the national team in Brazil.”
One of Britain’s most iconic aircraft will be roaring over Shropshire on Sunday 14 June, in an appearance dedicated to Sir Jack Hayward.
