GWR Fasteners Limited has recently moved from Llanfyllin to bigger premises in Oswestry. Staff are still on a high after being crowned winners at the Chronicle awards earlier this month, the latest in a list of achievements for the company.

The firm was established in 2009 by Gary W. Robinson, a toolmaker by trade with over 25 years in the engineering industry. It is run by its two directors, Gary Robinson and Jude Robinson and employs people from the local area in Powys and Shropshire.

Jude said: “We are a world-wide distributor of fasteners e.g. metric, BA, BSW, BSF, UNC and UNF nuts, bolts, screws, threaded bar etc.

“We are a manufacturer of special fasteners and precision components and some of our customers have included other fasteners companies; luxury cars; 3D printers; steam engines for model boats; chemical reactors; and for other high precision engineering companies.

“In March 2013 we moved from Llanfyllin to expand our business into much larger premises in Oswestry, namely Unit 1 Weston Farm. It is a workshop environment however people are welcome and do come to visit us for their fastener and manufacturing needs.

“We have succeeded in producing a viable and cost effective method of colouring stainless steel fasteners, GWR Colourfast, and we are the only company that we know of in the UK offering this unique and innovative service. GWR Colourfast has various aesthetic and practical uses, and won the Chronicle’s Innovation Award in 2012. We recently invested in the expansion of the manufacturing lines for GWR Colourfast.”

GWR is also only one of a few UK companies which provides the service of cutting threaded bar and bar materials to customers’ requirements.

In November 2012, the company’s profile was significantly raised after it was recognised by Theo Paphitis, of Dragon’s Den fame, for his Small Business Sunday Twitter initiative.

Jude added: “We sponsor Extreme Events Europe, a world record breaking Monster Truck touring stunt show. They tour around the UK and the world and they recently put on shows in Telford and Shrewsbury.

“We attended the Oswestry & Border Chronicle’s Business Awards in May 2013 and we are extremely proud to have been announced the winners of Young Business of the Year.”
