Ever fancied owning a 17th century Hotel just over the Shropshire border?
A hotel steeped in history on the borders of Shropshire and Powys is on the market with the owners looking to move on after 22 years as proprietors.
The pretty 20-room Dragon Hotel in Montgomery, is on the market with Colliers International.
A former coaching inn, the distinctive grade II listed hotel stands next to Montgomery Castle and overlooks the town’s market place.
Hotels Director Peter Brunt said The Dragon Hotel was well known for its striking black and white façade and award-winning kitchens.
He said: “The Dragon draws a range of business to it, from tourism to a regular commercial trade. It is the primary hotel in the area for functions and meetings as well as having a reliable year round and good class bar trade as indicated by the strong turnover.
“Our clients have owned The Dragon for 22 years and have made considerable improvements – extending, redecorating and refurbishing the premises – and plan to retire leaving a well organised, thriving business to their successors.”
The Dragon Hotel dates back to the 17th Century and features a heavily timbered restaurant with a fireplace created from an old bread oven.
The characterful surroundings have helped the pub win a series of AA rosettes over the past ten years and is popular with walkers exploring the many ruined castles in the vicinity as well as Offa’s Dyke.
The 20 letting bedrooms are of particularly good quality offering a versatile selection 8 doubles, four twins, two single, five family and one four poster room. Unusually for a country inn the Dragon also boasts an indoor heated swimming pool with sauna.
Owners’ accommodation comprises a ground floor living room and kitchen area and first floor double bedroom, single bedroom and bathroom.
Peter Brunt concluded: “In addition to its many advantages the Dragon has potential for development. The owners obtained planning and listed building consent for an extension to the hotel 2005 for a 14 bedroom extension.
The Dragon Hotel, is on the market with Colliers International at £595,000 freehold – set against a rising turnover of £449,354.
